Using Our Senses

A sensory experience is anything that involves our senses. That means anything we do can be classed as a sensory experience. However what many don’t realise is these experiences can really have an effect on us. For example if someone were drilling outside your home all day you would soon feel stressed for it. These experiences can however be used to our advantage.
There has been recent research into how our environment affects us and seeing as everything that is going on around us is captured by our senses it is important to know how to use it to work for us. One of the simplest ways it to get some soft soothing music that you can put on when you get home after your stressful day. Even if you do not notice it your ears and your mind will pick it up and it will help to sooth you. That is the reason music is often used to create the mood of a room.
Another great way to create a sensory experience is with lighting. Dim the lights to create a relaxing, calm feel. This is often used to create a romantic feel as well. You can also get glow lamps that have a colourful glow to them that work well when the room’s normal light is dimmed. Combine these together and you can soon relax from the day you have had.
While there are many of ways to use our senses to help us these ones are the easiest and most common. Think about it and I’m sure you could come up with a number of sensory experiences within your own living room that will help you cope with the stresses life will throw at us.
