Our Five Senses

The early years are important in the development of our 5 senses. It is therefore important to give kids as many quality sensory experiences as possible to help their brains develop. Whether it be touch, taste, sight, hearing or smell we all need to learn through experience and while as adults we have experienced a lot as a young child we are still learning. There are a few great ways to help with this.
One of the first sensory experiences most of us will have is the mobile over our cots. This will involve a number of different shaped objects each coloured differently that will spin slowly round while some music plays softly. This is a great way as it helps to develop more than one sense while the baby is in their cot.
One of the best sensory experiences for a young toddler is where they need to put various shaped objects into shaped holes. This gives them the chance to feel and see shapes and match them up. These are very often painted different colours. That is why so many of kid’s toys are brightly coloured.
So when looking after the young remember the more sensory experiences the better making them as varied as possible. This is the very best way to help their development and help them to grow.
